Shingoi Is please to announce they have tied
up a Sponsorship deal with local motorcycle ace Steve Austin.
Steve Austin currently works as a service manager for WR Fork
trucks where he has worked for over 17 years.
Having owned a variety of Road Bikes Steve decided in 1998 to
have a go at road racing due to the number of accidents on the
road. The first bike he bought was a road based Honda NSR250
and having converted it for the track he raced in his first
meeting at Cadwell Park. This was a real baptism of fire as
he was lapped and soon realised that both bike and rider were
easily outclassed and were well off the pace.
Following his experience in this first meeting Steve bought
a 1991 Yamaha TZ250 from Padgett’s of Batley (a real racer)
and finished the season with this machine with the best result
being a 3rd place and also winning ‘novice of the meeting’.
Early in 1999 Steve sold the TZ250 purchasing his next bike,
a 1993 Honda RS250 (ex Joey Dunlop Machine) and continued with
this machine until the end of the 2001 season finishing 9th
in the New Era Championship even though after breaking some
ribs in a crash at the foot of the mountain (Cadwell Park) in
May 2001 resulted in Steve missing out on half of the championship
races and had he been fit to compete would have surely finished
higher in the rankings.
Steve had his highest ever finish at Anglesey in Wales with
a very creditable second place finish.
The 1993 RS250 was sold at the end of the season and a newer
2000 specification machine was purchased for 2002.
In 2003 Steve won the Derby Phoenix Championship.
Steve is coming out of retirement to ride a two day event at
Cadwell Park, Louth in Lincolnshire on 23rd - 24th September.
He will be riding under the Shingoi brand.
